Choose the Level of Protection That Fits Your Unit
Principal Powertrain
Principal Powertrain focuses on major covered mechanical components within the engine, transmission, four-wheel-drive system and front/rear drive axles.
It can be an excellent option for owners looking for protection against major powertrain repair costs after the manufacturer's warranty expires.
Platinum Comprehensive
Platinum provides broader mechanical and electrical protection for covered components that would have been covered by the original manufacturer's warranty if that warranty had not expired.
Additional optional coverage may also be available for items such as snow ploughs, winter track systems, winches and qualifying rechargeable batteries.

Principal Powertrain Coverage
Principal Powertrain is designed around the major mechanical systems that keep your powersports unit moving.
Engine
Covered engine components include specified internally lubricated components within the engine block and cylinder head, including items such as crankshafts, connecting rods, pistons, camshafts, timing components, oil pumps, valves and related covered components.
Certain components outside the engine block are also covered, including specified flywheel and flex plate components, ring gears, intake manifolds and factory turbochargers or superchargers.
Transmission
Coverage includes specified internally lubricated components of automatic, manual and CVT transmissions, along with listed components such as shift cables, bearings, pumps, torque converters, housings, differential assemblies and shift solenoid valves.
Four-Wheel Drive
Covered four-wheel-drive components include specified internally lubricated parts, including cases, gears, sprockets, chains and related seals and gaskets when damaged from within.
Drive Axles
Covered front and rear drive axle components include specified housings, metal oil pans, seals, gaskets and bearings. Wheel bearings are excluded.
Platinum Comprehensive Coverage
Platinum Comprehensive provides broader protection against mechanical and electrical failure of covered components.
In general, a covered component is one that would have been covered by the original manufacturer's warranty if that manufacturer's warranty had not expired.
Platinum coverage is still subject to the specific covered components, exclusions, limitations and conditions contained in the Canada General Warranty contract.
Understanding Claim Limits
Canada General Warranty establishes maximum reimbursement amounts for individual claims.
- Principal Powertrain: $2,000 per claim as standard, with higher limits of $5,000 or $7,500 available when selected and paid for.
- Platinum Comprehensive: $2,000 per claim as standard, with higher limits of $5,000 or $10,000 available when selected and paid for.
- Total reimbursement during the warranty period cannot exceed the vehicle's purchase price at the point of sale, excluding taxes.
What Is the Deductible?
The standard claim administration fee is $100 per mechanical or electrical claim. The contract identifies this as an administration fee payable to the Authorized Repairer when the repair is completed.
Grand River Power Sports can also offer a $0 deductible option when purchased as an additional option at the time the warranty contract is signed.
The administration fee does not apply to Towing Assistance where that benefit is applicable under the contract.
How Long Does Coverage Last?
Available warranty terms can be selected for up to five years, depending on the vehicle, eligibility and term purchased.
When coverage is purchased while the manufacturer's warranty is still active, the Canada General Warranty period generally begins when the manufacturer's warranty expires.
If the unit is outside or does not have a manufacturer's warranty, the warranty period generally begins on the contract purchase date.
The exact start and end dates are determined by the applicable Canada General Warranty contract.
Keep Your Unit Properly Maintained
Extended warranty protection works alongside proper maintenance. The contract requires the vehicle to be serviced according to the manufacturer's maintenance schedule.
- Follow the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule.
- Unless otherwise agreed, servicing must be performed by an Authorized Repairer.
- The maximum service interval specified by the contract is 8,000 km or 12 months, whichever occurs first.
- Keep copies of maintenance records and invoices.
- Failure to comply with the required maintenance schedule can result in a claim being refused or the warranty being cancelled.
How to Make a Warranty Claim
If you experience a breakdown or suspected covered failure, contact Canada General Warranty before authorizing repairs.
- Stop operating the unit if continuing to operate it could cause additional damage.
- Contact Canada General Warranty using the Reimbursements Helpline.
- Canada General Warranty will direct you to the nearest Authorized Repairer.
- Present your Warranty Contract and Registration Page to the repair facility.
- The repair facility must obtain CGW's authorization before repairs are completed.
- If diagnosis requires dismantling and the failure is ultimately determined not to be covered, the owner may be responsible for those costs.
Canada General Warranty's contract states that claims must be authorized before repairs are performed.

What Isn't Covered?
As with any extended warranty, exclusions and limitations apply. Some important exclusions include:
- Modifications beyond manufacturer specifications.
- Commercial use, rental use and certain public-service uses.
- Damage resulting from misuse, abuse, neglect or accidents.
- Fire, theft, vandalism, submersion or impact damage.
- Damage caused by lack of oil, lubricant or required fluids.
- Failure to perform required maintenance.
- Normal wear and tear and consumable items.
- Pre-existing or pre-activated failures.
- Damage resulting from continuing to operate a unit with a known or suspected fault.
- Manufacturer recalls or defects that remain the manufacturer's responsibility.
- Cosmetic components such as paint and trim.
- Damage resulting from racing, rallies or competitive events.
- Certain software, computer code and virus-related failures.
- Use outside Canada and the continental United States, subject to the contract's limitations.
This is not a complete list of exclusions. Always review the actual Canada General Warranty contract before purchasing coverage.
Can the Warranty Be Transferred?
A Canada General Warranty contract may be transferable to a new owner at CGW's sole discretion, subject to the requirements in the contract.
Transfer is limited to qualifying private direct sales and is not available where the vehicle is sold to or through a motor vehicle or powersport dealer or trader. A contract with a previous reimbursement claim may also be ineligible for transfer.
Why Consider an Extended Warranty?
Powersports vehicles combine engines, transmissions, drivetrains, electrical systems and specialized components. A major repair outside the manufacturer's warranty can become a significant unexpected expense.
An extended warranty gives eligible owners an additional layer of protection against covered mechanical and electrical failures.
Whether you are buying a new ATV, side-by-side, snowmobile, motorcycle or personal watercraft, or you're purchasing a qualifying pre-owned unit, an extended warranty may help provide additional financial protection after the manufacturer's coverage ends.
The right plan depends on the age, model and use of your unit, as well as the level of protection you want.
